I am having a blast working on the reunion committee. There are so many classmates that I have not talked with since the 20 year reunion. Thanks to the other committee members for taking time out of their schedule to plan this event.

By the way, we still have a lot of people we cannot find. If you know someone that has not signed up on the website, please get in touch with them and urge them to sign up.

See you at the reunion.

Hi everyone,

thanks to Kimberly Blair, who has obviously researched on Facebook, I found this reunion website. Great!

Remember, I was the exchange-student from Germany. I am still living in Hamburg, Germany, and I am working in the media business. My son, who is 11, has just moved to his father in New Jersey. So I am still very much attached to the US... :-)

Looking forward to hearing from ya'll, Chris

Hello everyone!

I thought this might be a good spot to let everyone know how this site works! First of all, all of our classmates were placed on the lost list until they sign in on the web site. Your nme is removed form the "lost" list when you register on the site, some of you are not really "lost" but have just not taken a moment to submit your info to the web site. Our thinking is that this way we do not have to keep multiple list of our classmates. We have also scanned the pictures from our senior yearbook and we post those in the then spot when you register. Of course it's up to you to post a now picture and we sure hope you do! Don't forget to add comments, everyone loves hearing what's going on in your lives! Chris V. Of course we remember you! Now go and sign up on the site so we can let everyone know your "found"!
Let's start some conversations!

What’s up with Chris Musso’s “Now” picture? (No, I’d rather not “CLICK TO ENLARGE”!) Is Ginger is messin’ with his profile??

Hey Jannie! Wondered if anybody had noticed yet. No, I'm not messing with it . . . HE was! We (the family) just got back from a trip to San Diego! We were looking over the pictures, trying to pick and well, I put a "sensible" family pic up on my site. Then, we put up a sweet pic of me kissing Chris, sunset in the background, on his site. It was sweet, but as the day went on at work it was like, surely there is another pic from the hundreds that we took. (One of our daughters is a photography major at LSU and took well over 400 pics). Well, the picture seemed just too funny at the moment. . . at the end of a Friday. . .of a long week at work. . .after making up for missing a week of work. If you don't know Chris or haven't been around him in a long time - I am married to a 47 year old kid! He makes our life so fun!! And, as you can see, full of surprises. I'm thinking, he may change it before this is all over. Thanks so much for all that yall are doing and can't wait to catch up!!!

Hey everybody! I was just looking at the Class of '78 site and it looks like quite a few of them posted their own photo albums and had a lot more text about what's going on in their lives now. I'd love to catch up on everybody, so I hope many of you post. A few of us have also found our way over to Facebook looking for classmates. If you sign up and want to friend me, here's a link. There's also an all-classes BHS alumni group on facebook. Ev =)

2009 has so far been a year of reconnections for me, getting in touch with friends and family I haven't seen in decades.
Tammy, Polly W., Denise S., and I are planning on getting together in this area. Anyone in the surrounding states that want to join us, and don't mind an overnight stay, are welcome. Feel free to email me at anytime.
I can't wait to see everyone at the reunion.

I agree with Meredith – EVERYONE should post a “now” picture!

Next topic: “It’s only rock and roll, but I like it...”

Is it just me, or are there others who think we should consider having another “Live Band or DJ” vote?

Think of the many disenfranchised classmates out there who didn't get the opportunity to vote - their “mouse-clicks” silenced! - because the polls closed early! (Seriously, I bet we’ve had 50+ new classmates sign-up since the polls closed – and more coming “on-line” every day!)

Obviously, I’m posting because I’d like to have a live band. Live music rocks. Rocks like a hurricane! But don’t get me wrong – I’m not whining because the vote didn’t go my way, and certainly won’t be upset with whatever fabulous DJ the awesome Reunion Committee books (although I did hear Jamie’s crying...) My main point is that I can’t help but wonder if the result might be different if to polls were reopened!

So, to the Reunion Committee… Class of ’79… School of Rock! … With the importance and sheer magnitude of this event - can we really afford to get this wrong?

I would vote for a LIVE band!! Long live ROCK!! LOL!!

Head-bangers, unite!! Lol!

In case you weren’t aware – the committee did reopen the poll, but sneaky shenanigans ensued when one or more people found the polling software “flaw” and cast multiple votes. After all the hanging chads settled, there ended-up being 80 more votes than registered classmates - so the 2nd poll was (rightly so) ruled invalid. But thanks for your support! :)

Jannie Holloway Day on March 13, 2009 6:35 PM
I think you might be right, we should open the poll again, to be fair! We have a meeting this Monday night at my house and I will definatly bring it up. I don't disagree with you about a live band, but, me personally, voted DJ just because we would get to hear so much more of "our" music. Bands are limited on what they know, and play, even the really good ones. Just my opinion, but I don't see any reason why we can't open the polls again. You should be hearing something very soon!

Hey Jannie – No need for you guys to rock to boat on my account alone. I assumed there were others that thought about the early-closing polls – maybe not. And I can’t disagree with your point about a DJ – who can line-up all those 70s classics from Air Supply to Zeppelin. :) Thanks again, to you and the entire reunion committee. Mark

I LOVE Angel Adkin's comment regarding catching up from junior and senior high -- I've gotten wonderful emails from several of us from BJHS, including Paul Hill, Tammy Dixon, Randy Zuccaro, Meredith Eicher, etc., making me realize that our ties run deeper than just high school. In fact, (shout out to Ginger, Bobby, Lori and more) my little group goes back to elementary school. While I'm stoked to be in touch with a huge chunk of my life that I thought I had lost, it also makes me happy that so many who joined us in high school are still a part of the mix. It couldn't have been so easy to meld in with us, but you did it. Applause.

This website is powerful and wonderful, and I thank the committee again for making it happen.

Mark,
You are not rocking the boat! I think you are right on about the polls closing early. We have so many more signed on and it will be a much fairer poll if we put it up again. We have plenty of time to make any adjustments. We want everyone to take an interest in the reunion, it's for all of us to enjoy! I appreciate your comments, they help us make decisions. I hope you will chime in if you see or hear anything else.

I would appreciate it greatly if someone would send me an email message and tell me how and when Pete Fledderman died. Pete was a good friend of mine at Broadmoor, and I would like to know some of the details about his passing. I am still in shock over the news, and I wept when I saw his picture on the "In Memory" page.

Also, if anyone has contact information for his family I would appreciate that, too (via email please) so I can send his parents and brother and sister my condolences.

I am sorry for bringing up a sad subject at a time when it is so wonderful to get in touch with people from Broadmoor again.

Hey Brad! Seriously! Someone was offended by the picture? I loved it and I'm a serious cat lover! Anyone who could work with animals the way you do could never hurt any animal, of this I'm sure! That picture made me laugh! I have two cats and a dog. One cat stays indoors always and the other is an outdoor cat. My precious dog I don't think understands that they are the same animal, the one inside is her best friend but lord help the day she catches the outside cat! There will be a serious brawl!

2 comments: Considering that my first degree was in Political Science (I was going to save the world from of course at that time the republicans)......how many times do we get to vote on the poll page? You know being from Louisiana and all-and now being a tad more conservative and an accountant-I humorously have these random thoughts.

To Larry Bonds--there was a delightful tribute to Peter in the Baton Rouge Bar Journal-a publication for attorneys that are members of the Bar Association. If you will send me your address, I will be happy to mail you a copy.

I also one of those boys whose mouth was washed out with soap by Old Lady Schultz. I remember it well. I also remember hearing Mrs. England’s voice on the intercom, “I want the see the following boys in my office. Paul Hill, Michael Hebert, Randy Zuccara, and ….. THE VIDRINE BROTHERS!”

Twenty-five later my sons, nephews, brother in-law, and I went on a fun weekend camping trip. The following Monday I got a call from my son’s school principle, “Mr. Vidrine, you need to come to the school right now. Your son Chris is in BIG trouble!

Hmmm. It can’t be that bad, I thought. He probably beat up some punk kid that was picking on him. I was wrong. That evening I had to explain to him why certain things said and done around a late night campfire should not be repeated in the presence of teachers and moms.

Seems like déjà vu all over again.

Yes, you have to watch what you say in front of little kids--a lesson I have have learned the hard way. When my son Nick was a little guy--maybe two years old--he was riding in the carseat as I was driving. A driver came speeding up to a stop sign as I was pulling out at a four-way-stop intersection, and I began saying to the other driver under my breath, "Don't you do it! Don't you do it!" Nick asked, "Daddy, is that a dickhead?" I, of course, replied, "Yes, it is son." Then I had to pull over because I was laughing so hard.

My daughter Katy was playing on the floor of the church office once while my wife was talking to a church secretary. Katy, who was about two at the time, kept pickicking up a little rock and dropping it. Each time she would drop the rock, she would say, "Oh dammit!"

As the cliche goes, "Pitchers have ears!"

By the way, Meredith, I have sent you an email with my mailing address. Thanks for letting me know about Pete's obit.

All,

After receiving several “nice try, Mark” email messages from classmates – I realized how this looks. If we had a 30-year reunion Yearbook, I’d be voted “Most likely to cheat on the Live Band/DJ poll.”

In all seriousness – it was NOT me. I did in fact “audit” the poll when it reopened, found the flaw, and informed the Reunion Committee about the problem back on 3/18. I even suggested the poll be closed.

So, please know my actual Yearbook entry should read, “Most likely to appear to have cheated on the Live Band/DJ poll but didn’t.” I apologize to everyone for starting this, and to those who voted and then re-voted on the now “bogus” (Miami-Dade-County-like) poll. I’m sure the DJ is going to be awesome!

Sincerely,

Mark

Hello everyone! I hope everybody is enjoying the beautiful spring weather! I thought this would be a good place to remind everyone about buying tickets to the reunion. Plans are coming along great but we need for some folks who are able, to go ahead and purchase their tickets. We started with a zero budget and have been able to move forward with committee members putting up the front money. We are good with this but we still have a few more deposits that need to be paid in order to finalize. We have had only two tickets purchased since tickets went on sale. Soooo, anyone who can purchase now, that would be a BIG help. Thanks, Jannie

Ok, 2 quick stories to report....In calandros in BR, a girl approaches says Meredith, you do not know who I am do you-----Kim Gray. What a wonderful flashback and visit we had later! She is now signed up!

Tonight, at restaurant/bar and trying to get out the door this girls says "love your necklace." She is in town for some graduations and used to live here. So, I say where did you go to school...BHS 79.....I said reallllly......and I said no way---and once again I am busted. She says :Meredith is that you? I am still clueless and she says: Alicia Ammon. We both fell over. Alicia and I played softball and volleyball together and were "running buddies" . We were on opposing summer teams but were always close. 1 hour later we were still babbling and in total shock of the run in.

Hats off to Alicia and to Kim- they have survived some life threatening medical situations and are here today with us due to their strength.

I am still blown away by both happenstances!

Hey Broadmoor classmates. I just wanted to pass along that today a friend took me shopping at the “Time Warp” on Government Street in Baton Rouge. This was an awesome place!
Clothes from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and I am talking about the tube tops, plaid jackets and pants (Men) to mini dresses, pants suits, A-line dresses and the 70’s hippy look.Hats, caps, belts, boots you name it.
I myself have decided that I will be wearing a 1970’s pants suit on Friday night with my Farrah Fawcet hair doo. Now Saturday I will time warp into the 21st century. If anyone wants to have fun with the reunion this is the place to go. Only 2 weeks until the reunion. I can't wait to see everyone. Kim Wesley Hodgeson

I am heading back to Canada this morning, where it has been snowing all weekend. I wanted to thank the committee for such a fantastic job of planning our reunion and providing us with a great weekend. I feel honored to have gone to high school with so many wonderful people. It was great reconnecting with everyone and creating more good memories. Thanks again to our Reunion committee and I look forward to future connections. Cheers Lisa Hutchison Losby

Hi all,

Does anyone know what happened to Linda Calcote? She went through Broadmoor Elementary, Junior High, and High School with us. She is not listed as a senior on our "Lost Classmates" list, so I assume that she must have graduated early.

I would like to get her in touch with our class again.

Thanks.

My thanks to Jeanne / Alex Byers for their help in finding Linda Calcote. She is doing well in Little Rock, and we have exchanged a couple of emails.

Oops! I left out Denise Garretson's name from that last post, which because of my pronoun reference makes it sound as if Jeanne is two people! Anyway, thanks to both Jeanne and Denise!

I can't say enough about the great job done by all on the reunion committe. Kara & I really enjoyed being with everyone once again. The party ended all too soon.

You know when we graduated, all of us started out pretty much the same with a great High School education & a desire to go out into the world. It's really interesting to see what each of us did with our lives & what we became in a very quick 30 yrs.

My very best to ya'll.

Great pictures of the reunion. Looks like it was a good time. I wish I could have made it but I was in Houston with my son in Catholic High band playing at the Bands Of America festival. I did make a couple of the mini get togethers and it was nice to see a few classmates again. Yes Jim a cruise sounds good.

Another Boat missed......

So much wanted to be there with you all, but from the photos, it looks like you guys had fun without me (imagine that). Sincere thanks to the committee - regardless of my countless unexcused Broadmoor absences which now includes our 30 yr. reunion. All kidding aside, the time, work and effort put into putting one of these on is more than most of us can imagine. So once again, thank you and btw are we doing another one in (5) years or do I have to wait another 10???????

Keep the photos coming those of us unable to attend really - really appreciate seeing how you guys have aged (so unlike those of us who didn't come).

Robin,

We are going to have a 35 year reunion. The discussion right now is a cruise out of New Orleans in early June of 2014. So mark your calendar. More details later.

A potential cruise out of the Big Easy!!!! Wow.. sounds great. I'm pretty sure I'm free in 2014, but will consult with my social secretary to be sure.

Would love to help out in any way I can - keep me in mind. I am in the process of assisting in another Smooth Jazz Cruise out of Port Canaveral our 2nd so far and it as it turns out we were successful so anticipate it becoming an Annual event.

Hello Fellow Grad's, it's been a month since the big date, I have truly enjoyed the many conversations and contacts over the last 30 days. I am still getting more email addresses to keep the information out to everyone. I encourage you to get a facebook account and get us in as your friends, the daily communications with classmates all over this great nation of ours has been great. I will continue to keep in touch with everybody. At this time we will be waiting until January for our next get together. If we have classmates come in town that could change. I hope all are doing well, Thanks to the reunion Team for the GREAT job. I look forward to the cruse in 5 years. If you need to contact me my email is duayne@duaynewatts.com

To: Those Desiring to Keep Experience and Integrity on Our School Board

RE: Re-elect Jill Dyason to the EBR School Board

Anyone who has witnessed the downfall of a public school system in their city will tell you the impact is felt throughout the entire community. The social and economic impact that follows is usually permanent.

The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board is at critical juncture as key board members have chosen to not run again. As you know, Jill Dyason has been serving on the school board since June of 2001 and is seeking re-election. This letter is simply an effort to get the word out that she needs help as she holds down a full time job, raises kids and serves on the board while needing to raise funds. None of us enjoy the task of fundraising, but if we can all chip in small amounts, it will add up to a strong start.

A strong start is what she needs. There are talks that some folks are thinking about running against her for the sake of change. Change for the sake of change is not a good reason to oust experience and integrity. Jill has kids in the public schools and is a graduate of Broadmoor High. She knows and understands the dynamics of the individual board members and is best positioned to keep poor practices in check.

Help us make this task for Jill a bit easier and help us extend the life of Baton Rouge by keeping good people in office and eliminating the bad ones. It’s a small price to pay. Don’t fail to give because you don’t want to give a small donation. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and go a long way.

Donations can be sent to:

Jill Dyason

22768 Hoo Shoo Too Rd.

Baton Rouge, La 70817

Please consider passing this letter to others on your e-mail list.

Thanks!
